You Are Here - The Mother of all Olympics

You Are Here - The Mother of all Olympics

To celebrate the world coming to the East End for the Olympics, Mother are teaming up with award-winning photographer and artist Caroll Taveras to document and help the lost tourists of Shoreditch over the two weeks of the Games.
You Are Here, is an exhibition and evolving photo project taking place between 30 July and 10 August at Mother. Each morning, intrepid volunteers from Mother will trek the streets of Shoreditch armed with placards and sandwich boards offering to help lost people. Any person that needs help navigating around the area will be taken to Mother, have their photograph taken by Caroll in a special pop-up photo studio, be fed and watered then helped on their way by a friendly Mother concierge.
Caroll will be recreating her celebrated PHOTO STUDIO project at Mother where lost tourists will be photographed on a 4”x5” Polaroid and a large format view camera, hailing back to a tradition that was popular in small town portrait studios around the world in the first half of the twentieth century. The images that Caroll takes will create a record of the moment the world came to East London (and got a bit lost).
Each day, Caroll’s photographs will be uploaded to a dedicated Tumblr blog and pasted directly onto the walls of Mother, to create a constantly evolving record and exhibition of everyone Mother found and helped on their way.
