In recent years, craft has grown huge part of both our creative economy, and its values has been creeping into some of the brands we consume everyday. Whilst it's not a new trend we thought it was worth some perspective and a bit of an update. So in this craft issue, guest editor Tom Bird introduces us to a short history of craft; explains how the origins of craft - necessity and needs - have been re-appropriated with creative expression for 21st century survival; he talks about being frugal and introduces us the designers and brands that are 'upcycling'.
